Nothing is impossible !! Car Driving - a year back and now

Nothing is impossible. You can learn anything at any age. This was very true with me.
Some learn car driving as their hobby/interest and some learn it on necessity or compulsion. Initially a year back, i came into the second category. Car driving was something which i had been neglecting for a very long time though i had the support from Magesh who keeps insisting me in learning. I was always comfortable with my 2 wheeler no matter what distance i had to go in Pune/Chennai. I always felt that i didnt have the self confidence to drive a car.. didnt have the sufficient knowledge in understanding the car controls(which i feel i dont have even now as im owning an auto gear), road visibility, judgement on either side while driving... Nov 2014 was the time when we decided to change school for kids and for the option of school which we had in mind, required dropping and picking up kids ourselves as there isnt school bus commuting to this area. School distance being 11 kms from our place, going with 2 kids in activa on a regular basis isnt advisable. Ocassionally i can get Magesh's help in dropping or picking up but not regularly and thats when i was forced to learn car driving and joined a driving school with lots of fear.. Will i be able to learn? Will i get the confidence? Will my road fear get rid? And at that point my mind was saying a No only. On joining the driving school, before learning to drive on road, I had to familiarise myself with the basic things inside the car like: the basic controls, seat adjustment, use of foot pedals, steering controls, mirror adjustment.. Had a couple of theory classes which was ok and then 3-4 classes in a simulator, which was also ok.. meanwhile my LLR got ready and the day came when i had to drive a real alto on road...Though the instructor was next to me always and had the brake control.. i had the fear till the classes got over though i started driving in 4th gear. Still remember holding the steering so tightly and instructor always use to correct me asking me to hold the steering relaxedly. I had big difficulty in controlling all together: gear, clutch, brake, steering control and gear change.. uhhhh.. i used to drive on the left lane itself always and whenever any vehicle overtakes me.. i used to put a brake. Also when i see so many vehicles on road, get nervous and start stopping the car almost 200 mts before itself if i see a signal ahead and ofcourse i know thats not required but that was my fear level. Taking a u turn, getting the vehicle in reverse, turning in narrow roads, parking the car with a proper judgement on the left side, everything was kind of tough at that stage. Finally the last day of my driving class came and i was told by my instructor that how much ever i learn in class.. the real challenge and confidence comes when u take your own car and start driving alone in traffic.Even then my mind was saying how am i going to get that confidence.. The road fear didnt go at all. Went for my licence test and was through and got my licence by Feb 20.. Initially had lots of confusion whether to go in for auto or normal. Magesh said that i can definitely manage with normal car but i wanted auto gear only and finalised on it and booked alto K10 vxi autogear.. Got my car delivery also on march 12th but didnt get the confidence driving it.
School was to reopen on 1st April and i had to get the confidence of atleast driving it without anyone near me by then so that i can start taking it for the purpose i learnt. Magesh kept encouraging me daily asking me to take but i kept refusing and somehow 2 days before school reopened, took it and went for a small drive in our area but i made sure that i took it out when there wont be traffic. The first day to school, morning Magesh came to drop and after dropping them and coming, he gave it to me to drive but had to take it alone in the evening during pick up. The travel time is 20-25 mins and i use to leave home by 2.30 itself for 3.30 leaving time. The entire april session managed somehow with one of my friend's help who use to make sure she comes behind my car itself in the evenings so that if any issues in between i was feeling comfortable that she was there. The entire may, didnt drive and again started driving in June once school reopened. Slowly started getting the confidence, fear started going and was feeling comfortable driving but still never dare to drive it during mornings as there will be traffic and within a month, couldnt believe myself that i will also start driving as others and even overtaking few vehicles would be like a bigg thing for me and tell Magesh and feel happy. Slowly started with one by one... driving in traffics, taking car for my other outings, night driving, taking kids to mall, restaurants and movies when Magesh was not in Chennai. Also had the experience of driving in heavy rains with the wipers on full swing.. Wanted to try a long drive for quite sometime and with Archarya's blessings, got the opportunity to drive to Kanchipuram recently, a month ago. Thanks to my brother who was with me throughout my drive guiding me. A year has passed by and the roads where i use to drive during my driving class gives me many memories. Keep thinking whenever i cross the 200 ft road that this was the road where i use to learn, get scared and now feel happy that just like others im also driving. Also get to see others learning to drive o the same road from the same driving school.. Felt like sharing my car driving experience with all of you. Thanks for sparing 5-10 mins of your precious time in reading this.

Pandharpur - Lord Vitthal Rukhmi

We had a memorable trip to Pandharpur. Thought will share about our trip with all of u.Let me briefly say few things before going to our Pandarpur trip..

We and our friend's family(Radhika ad Swaminathan) who stays in 4th floor of our block are pretty close. They have one daughter who is 8 yrs old(Deepti). Deepti and Sughosh are good friends. Almost daily they play together. We knew each other from the time we shifted to this house in Feb 2009 but we became close after Mahathi's birth. Initially when appa or my mother in law were not with us and i had to go to Sughosh's school to pick him up in the afternoons, i used to leave Mahathi with Radhika and go. This way, we became pretty close. This is a picture taken recently in our house
They are devotees of "Sri Anna". Every year for Gokulashtami, they go to Paranur(near Vizhupuram) where Sri Anna lives. Gokulashtami is celebrated there in a grand manner for a week. Sri Anna has also blessed them by his visit couple of times to their house here in Pune. Sri Anna's devotees from Mumbai attend one day of the Aashada Ekadasi Pilgrimage(which comes in the month June-July, where lacs of devotees walk from Aalandi near Pune to Pandharpur to reach Pandharpur by the Ekadasi day) and on their return back, they come to Pune, do a bhajanai in Radhika's house every year. We got the chance of attending that last year(July 2010). Bhajanai was too good and it was mostly Abhang Bhajanai. Sri Anna's daughter Subadra came to Pune after marriage last year. She wanted to teach the slogams composed by Anna to small kids. So, Radhika ad myself started taking Deepti and Sughosh to her house for the class in the weekends. Manni was here with her daughter for 2 months and during Navrathri, i invited Manni and Subadra to our house for manjal kungumam. They also came without hesitating. Mahathi also used to enjoy her time when we go to Subadra's house for slogam class.

Well, I wanted to go to Pandarpur once(Magesh has been there couple of times) and we asked Radhika if they could also join us(Pandarpur is their kuladeivam and they visit the temple twice a year definitely) so that we will have known people who can guide us there and it will be good to go together. We spoke to them last month asking if we can plan sometime. Then only they told us that they go to Pandarpur every year for Maha Shivarathri. Anna will also come and many devotees from Chennai, Bangalore, Pune and mainly from Mumbai will also come there and spend 2 days there. There are 2 dharmasthalas near the temple where they will book the rooms well in advance. Radhika asked us if we can join them during this time. Told them ok and we started planning.

Now to brief up about Pandharpur for those who are not aware.. It is a prominent pilgrimage city on the Bhima river(also known as ChandraBhaga) in Maharashtra. Pandharpur hosts the renowned Vitthal Rukhmini temple. The name Vitthal is composed of 2 sanskrit-marathi words.. 'Vit' means brick and 'thala' means standing. Thus, Vitthala means, one standing on a brick. The Varkari poet-saint Tukaram had a different meaning for the same.. Vitthala composed of 2 words 'Vittha' means ignorance and 'la' means one who accepts. Thus meaning, one who accepts innocent people who are devoid of knowledge. This is a great place to visit for devotees all over India.

Every year Varkari walk hundreds of miles to the holy town of Pandharpur, gathering there on ekadashi (the 11th day) of the Hindu lunar calendar month of Aashaadha (which falls sometime in July). Varkaris making the pilgrimage to Pandharpur carry the palkhis (palanquins) of the sants from their places of samadhi. Varkaris journey start from Alandi and ends in Pandharpur. The day the Varkaris walk through Pune, all schools ad most of the offices are declared holiday.

This year, Maha Shivratri fell on March 2nd. Radhika and family planned to leave on 1st evening itself and since Magesh had some calls on 1st evening, we decided to leave on 2nd early morning(both appa and son had holiday on 2nd) and have darshan of Vittal and attend the Bajanai till 3rd morning and get back to Pune. But Sughosh had a photo session in his school on 3rd and attendance was compulsory. So, we changed our plan and we also decided to leave along with Radhika and family on 1st evening itself. They came in their car and we left in our car by 4 30 PM. There were 2 routes to Pandarpur and Deepti's father said we will take the route via Shirwal as the other one(via Satara) is ard 30-40 kms extra. He said he has travelled by Shirwal route and not by the other one. So, went by that route itself. Kids slept then and there. Mahathi was little restless as she wasnt able to play or get down as she wanted and was bored sitting either in my lap or in the seat all the time. After ard 60-70 kms, the roads for a stretch of ard 50-60 kms were too bad. But good that we crossed that stretch when there was day light. After that, roads were good. Kids started sleeping again by ard 8 and there was another one and half hours drive. The drive was so good. Some of the roads reminded me of the roads between Trichy and Turaiyur. The cd player was singing Vittal Das Bhajans. We didnt take any breaks and reached Pandarpur by 9 30 PM. Deepti's father took a break in between and they reached by ard 10 15 or so. Anyway, we took a room in a lodge near to Maaheshwari(Thats the dharmasthala's name where the Mumbai group had booked the rooms for them and thats the place where the Bhajanais were arranged. Sri Anna also stayed there only.)

Radhika's and our rooms were next to each other in the same lodge. Settled in the room, had dinner in a nearby homemade mess. Chapathi, subji, daal and rice. Back to room and slept by 11 30.

Got up by 5 30, i first got ready and then Magesh and Sughosh got ready and Sughosh went to Radhika's room and started playing with Deepti. Meanwhile, dressed up Mahathi too and when i came out, i could see ChandraBhaga river from the corridor. Sughosh and Mahathi were so happy on seeing the water there and Sughosh wanted to go there but due to lack of time, we couldnt go near the river.

Anyway, we all left by 7 15 to Maaheshwari. They arrange everything there. Right from morning coffee till dinner. Had coffee and were waiting for Anna to come down from his room. People from all places slowly started coming in the morning by bus and car. Kids were happy running every where and playing. Sughosh, Mahathi and Deepti had a fun time.

Anna came from his room by 8 and started proceeding for temple for darshan and we(there were may of us) also went behind him. Stood in the queue and "jai jai vittala.. PanduRanga, Jai hari vittala.. Panduranga" was being told by all of us in chorus. There is a 5 storey buildig adjacent to the main gopuram and generally the crowd will be so much that we will have to wait for atleast 3-4 hrs. Luckily, the crowd wasnt much and in half an hours time, we finished the darshan of Lord Vitthal. Then went to Rukmini sannidhi and came out of the temple by 9 15. Had a very good darisanam. Back to Maaheshwari and had breakfast(Pongal and sambar).

Bhajanai started by 9 30 and went on till 1. Meanwhile, Anna was sitting in one place and we got the blessings from him too.

There was a huge crowd with many devotees. Magesh was telling me later that the bhajanai was similar to the one that happens in Turaiyur and that he knew many songs. In the afternoon, before lunch, Radhika and myself went for a mini shopping in the mada veedhis. Got some bangles and some toys for sughosh and mahathi and also got Lord Vitthal and Rukhmini photo and back to Maaheshwari for lunch. Then it was a relaxed afternoon. People took rest for sometime. People went to temple in batches. People were sitting in groups and talking.

Anna's pravachanam was to start by ard 4.. so, Radhika and myself took kids to the room to take rest for sometime and refresh ourselves and come back by 4. There were many horse carts and kids wanted to go in that. So, for going to our room(which is just 5 min walkable distance) we went in horse cart asking him to take us for a round for some distance and then leave in our room. Kids enjoyed the ride in the horsecart.

While in room, Magesh called saying Anna is going towards the temple and many others are following him. There was one group of devotees from Udipi who were singing bhajans facing Anna, taking him towards the temple. And in temple they performed bhajanai for half an hour.I missed that.
Anyway, by the time Magesh was back.. it was 4 45 and we had to leave by atleast 5 or 5 30 so that we can reach Pune by 10 30 to avoid night drive for a longer period. Got ready, had coffee and left by 5 30 and reached Pune by night. We took the Satara route to see how was that road. Roads were too good. Smooth stretch. Infact for the first one and half hours drive, the scenery was excellent. We really enjoyed our drive.

There ends our memorable trip to Pandharpur. Anyone who plans a trip to Pune, please do plan to go to Pandharpur too.

Navrathri

Navrathri Golu went off in grand manner this year. After our marriage, we have celebrated Navrathri golu in Pune for 3 yrs but this year was the best with many visitors. Preparations for Golu started 3 days bfr Amavasai. Magesh and appa arranged the steps(5 steps) and i did the side decoration works. On Amavasai, after both of them finished tharpanam, bhommai vekka aarambichom. Magesh left for office after we finished arranging all the bhommais in the step. Then i got sand from our society gardener and arranged the Giri valam set. It came out well. Then started with Rangolis. 3 flowers near the steps, one big one in front of girivalam set and 3 small ones in front of swami mandapam. It almost took half a day to finish all as i took breaks in between for Mahathi.
Mahathi was so curious to enter the room and play with rangolis. Had to take extra care of her when the room was open in the mornings and evening. In the daytime, we keep the door closed.

Made 9 varieties of sundal and right from saturday, started inviting people in batches. Everyone appreciated the effort taken in decorating the golu. Maharashtrians who had come to see were really amazed and told that they have never seen such type anywhere so far. 2 days, i also went to 4 houses for Golu/vethallai paakku. Among these 4 houses, one stays in our same block, 4th floor, another mami stays in our same society but different block, and one is Sughosh's nursery teacher and other mami near our area(made her friend in school - her daughter also studies in the same school in 3rd std). On Saturday, saraswathy poojai went off well. Appa performed the poojai. Sughosh was happy that i wont call him to do his home work or read his library book and he made sure that i kept all his books in poojai :-) Yday did punar poojai and in the night, aarthi eduthu, rendu bhommaiya padukka vechuttom. Thus, Golu ended in a grand manner.

Pune Ganpati festival

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated in a grand manner here and we decided to go to Lakshmi road where there will be lots of Ganpati mandals during this 10 days and it will be really wonderful to see it in the night time with all lightings.

On saturday, after finishing the sloka class for Sughosh, we left by ard 8. Reached almost 70% of the distance, parked our car and started walking for the rest of the distance. Also finished our dinner in a hotel and walked further. Lakshmi Road was so much crowded that near some mandals, we need not walk but we will be literally pushed forward. That was the crowd. Still managed with both kids. Sughosh was with Magesh and Mahathi was with me and not to be missed in the crowd, Magesh walked first and i holded his t shirt tightly and appa behind me holding me. After almost walking for 45 to 50 min, reached Dagdusheth temple area where there was restriction of going by one road and walk out from other road. It was so crowded that for few seconds i was wondering whether to go and see that main Ganpati in that crowd with 2 kids because once we join the crowd, it wont be possible to get back. Though there was a television where we could see the Ganpati without going near, we wanted to go near and see. Mahathi had slept by then so, took the decision of going and joined the crowd and we were sure it is worth taking the decision of going near to see Ganpati. The crowd was managed very well by volunteers by putting 2 ropes at 2 places and sending one part of crowd and again the next part of the crowd will be sent after 5 min. Had a very good darshan and also saw one among the 5 important Ganpati mandals - Tulshibaug Ganpati.

Started walking back towards the road where we had our car parked. It was almost 10 45. Sughosh lost his chappals in that crowd while lifting him. And it was not possible to keep carrying him all th way to the car. so, got an auto and reached the parking place and back home by 11 20 Pm.

Vinayaka Chathurthi

Ganapati Bappa Moraya... Mangala Moorthy Moraya

Vinayagar Chathurthi went off in a grand manner this year in our house. Right from Thursday i started the preparation in Pooja room. Like arranging the centre table with the other pillaiyars we had at home and the wall decoration. Also i started making a Pillaiyar rangoli which i managed to finish by Thursday night. Had to take a break in between as Mahathi was doing ragalai.

On Friday, Appa, Magesh and Sughosh went to get the plaster of paris make Vinayagar. Also the flowers, leaves and maalai were purchased on friday itself. Pune vazhakka padi, Pillaiyar was closed with a veshti on Friday after keeping in pooja room.

Saturday, all was set by 10 45 Am and poojai was started and got over by 11 30. Had lunch after that.

We decided to do a 3 days poojai for Pillaiyar before Visarjan. So, verkadalai sundal was prepared for evening neivedhiyam on saturday. Mahathi Birthday - 4th July 2010

Kids are small enough to hold in our arms and big enough to fill our lives with. So are our two little ones - Sughosh and Mahathi. 4 yrsback, our first bundle of joy came in our life and exactly a year back our second bundle of joy entered our life to live in our hearts and fill them with love. We get the feeling that the whole world is in our arms while holding our kids.

On sunday, 4th of July, we celebrated the first birthday of our little Princess. We had arranged a snacks party after cake cutting in our society club house. Menu for snacks - Tang juice(lemon flavour), Gulab Jamun, Cake, Samosa and Chips. Few days back itself we had made a list as to whom all to invite. Last week after our return from Chennai, booked our club house for the party. Its Rs 200 for a day. We need to do a deposit of Rs 1000 and we will be given back Rs 800 the next day. The club house is an ideal place for a small party. Its in the first floor and on going up, to the left side is the hall and to the right side, we have an open terrace which is really good and airy and kids can have their own fun by playing there. Also there was a small platform in L shape like in kitchen to keep water food snacks etc.

On Saturday we did the purchasing - buying new dress for both Sughosh and Mahathi, got the decoration items for the hall, got paper plates, tumblers, cups and spoons for snacks, purchase of return gifts for all the kids who came. We also ordered for cake and samosa. Saturday was pretty hectic with lots of work. And in between these purchasing, i also made time at home to prepare gulab jamuns. Made 150 jamuns. Sughosh was all excited for the party and was asking when will Sunday come and he only will give the return gifts to everyone.

On Sunday, kids woke up by 7 and Sughosh sang birthday song for his dear little sister. After lunch by around 2, we went to the club house and started with the decoration and it went on till 3.45. Decorated with many balloons of medium size, 2 big balloons with small thermocol balls, colour papers, Happy birthday banner, Noddy's thermacol cuting with Mahathi's name in it. Hall was looking good after the full decoration. Arranged all the chairs and got back home by 4.15. Magesh went to get the cake and samosas and after keeping them in the hall, he was also back home by 4.45. Meanwhile, gave Mahathi cerelac and milk for Sughosh and made them ready by 5. Since we had invited all by 5, Magesh and kids went to the hall first and i also got ready and went to hall. Guests had already started arriving. One by one everyone came and by ard 6, we had the cake cutting. All kids enjoyed and gave everyone the snacks. We had the snacks in the open terrace.

It was a nice get together. Thanks to the weather, though it was cloudy and drizzling in the afternoons, no rains till the party got over. One by one, all left and after cleaning up the place, we got back to our house by 7.45. Our friend Satish and his wife Chitra were with us right from 5PM to 8.30 PM helping us. Magesh's colleague and his wife couldnt come for the party but they came home by 8.30 and stayed till 10. Thus Mahathi's first bday got over in a grand manner.

Thanks once again to all who attended and to all those who gave their wishes through mail, sms and phone.

July 4th date of birth முடிந்த பின், இங்குள்ள நாராயண்புர் சென்று மொட்டை அடிக்கலாம் என்று இருக்கிறோம். இனிமேல்தான் நாள் பார்க்க வேண்டும்.
